Innhold

Associazione Interculturale NUR is a non-profit organisation founded in 1999 and active in the field of intercultural integration, promoting and organising cultural events, educational activities and informative seminars for young people in Sardinia.
Between 1997 and 1999, our founding members gained valuable experience by writing and managing, as volunteers for the FILEF Sardegna association (Italian Federation of Migrant Workers and Families), an ambitious EVS project, which went on to receive the European Youth Award in 2005 as the best EVS project in Europe.
This experience inspired us to create a new association dedicated specifically to combating the cultural isolation affecting young people in Sardinia through intercultural mobility and non-formal education experiences. Our main objective is to utilise and promote interculturalism, mutual understanding between different cultures, and solidarity as tools to overcome nationalism and isolation.

Our areas of interest are:
  • the promotion of exchanges between different cultures;
  • international youth mobility that is as accessible and inclusive as possible, with a particular focus on providing information to young people from the inland areas of Sardinia;
  • the fight against all forms of racism and xenophobia;
  • the recognition and enhancement of skills acquired through non-formal learning experiences;
  • the promotion of innovative use of digital tools for access to education;
  • teaching Italian to foreigners and the socio-cultural inclusion of immigrants, applying skills and expertise built up over more than 20 years of hosting, sending and training within the framework of the European Voluntary Service (EVS);
  • fostering intergenerational exchange between young people and older adults, promoting mutual learning and the sharing of experiences and knowledge across different generations;
  • the recognition of the profession of Youth Worker and the professionalism of practitioners in the sector.

Since 2000, NUR has been accredited by the European Commission and the Italian National Agency for Youth (AIG) for the Youth in Action programme, followed by Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. Within this framework, it manages numerous EU-funded projects each year.
Over the years, NUR has carried out several projects to host volunteers in Sardinia and to send volunteers abroad under the European Voluntary Service (now the European Solidarity Corps). Through the Erasmus+ programme (and its predecessors), it has implemented international training projects, centralised projects directly funded by the European Commission in third countries, intercultural youth exchanges, and strategic partnerships for the exchange of best practices and innovation.

From 2003 to 2022, NUR ‘lent’ its trainers to deliver centralised on-arrival training courses for European Volunteers arriving in Italy, organised by the Italian National Agency for Youth (AIG) under the relevant EU programmes and managed by the Replay network of European trainers – of which we are founding members – or by AIG itself.
From 2003 to 2020, it also served as a CELI Examination Centre for the Università per Stranieri di Perugia and today actively collaborates with other organisations, including the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, to promote language learning among immigrants. As part of its work to facilitate the inclusion of third-country nationals, NUR has participated every year since 2009 in initiatives under the FEI and subsequently the FAMI programmes. These are projects funded through calls for proposals from the Ministry of the Interior and EU grants.

We collaborate with local schools to deliver engaging and innovative internship projects for students. Furthermore, we work annually in partnership with various Sardinian municipalities (Sini, Allai, Mandas, Nurallao, Serri, Seneghe, to name a few) on various projects aimed at raising awareness of youth mobility through the presentation and analysis of the various actions of the Erasmus+ programme. The programme also encourages greater participation in community life through workshops and active citizenship projects run by our staff.

Our activities are aimed in particular at young people aged between 13 and 35, elderly people, migrants and youth workers from associations in our sector.
We are founding members of the “Committee of Sardinian Associations for International Mobility – CASMI” and host the regional office of the national association of youth workers “NINFEA”.
